In the latest reshuffle of Indian cabinet, the biggest surprise was the portfolio of defense, which was held by Manohar Parikar earlier but after the transfer of Parikar to Goa, it went as an additional charge to Mr. Aurn Jaitely, who is also heading the finance department.  In the amid speculation once again Narendra Modi and Amit Shah has stunned everyone by making Nirmala Sitaram as India’s 2nd women defense and 1st full-time woman defense minister.

Nirmala Sitaraman was previously holding the position of commerce minister as MOS charge. her work was quite good, because of which she got promoted with four other MOS minister including Piyush Goyal, Muktar Abbas, Dharmendra Pradhan.

Though her performance was good no buddy ha thought that she will be the next Defence minister. Speculation in the media is, Prime minister Narendra Modi wanted Rajnath to move to Defence from Home ministry but he refused to do so. So Narendra Modi finally decided to go with the new face to represent in CCS. ( Cabinet committee of security ) the highest body of India.

Introduction to Nirmala Sitaraman.

Nirmala Sitharaman was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India to Shri Narayanan Sitaraman and Savitri. She obtained a B.A. degree from Seethalakshmi Ramaswamy College, Tiruchirappalli and an MA degree in economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University in 1980and MPhil.

Sitharaman then served at Pricewaterhouse Coopers as a Senior Manager and later for the BBC World Service.

She is one of the founding directors of Pranava school in Hyderabad.She was formerly a member of the National Commission for Women.

Nirmala Sitharaman came closer to BJP, In the last days of the Atal Bihari government in 1999. The Vajpayee Government appointed her as a member of the National Commission for Women. Meanwhile, she joined the association’s economic forum ‘Swadeshi Jagran Manch’.

In 2006, Nirmala Sitharaman officially joined the BJP. She was made the BJP’s Andhra unit spokesman. Husband was already in BJP. Prabhakar split from BJP in 2008 and together with actor Chiranjeevi, he formed a separate party named ‘Praja Rajyam’. Nirmala Sitharaman remained in the BJP. In 2010, there was a team of BJP national level spokespersons, As by this time Sitaramn had established her self as a prominant spokes person, as a result she was called into the center.

The elevation of Sitaram is also the signal that, BJP is looking south. After Venkayah Naidu becoming the vice president of the country, BJP is looking to establish prominent face in the south from BJP. Who could be a better option than Nirmala Sitaram, who has no ill records against her, very well spoken and good relationships with other parties from the south?
